- From the desktop, select: Applications > Accessories > Terminal to open a terminal session.
- In the terminal window, type:sudo apt-get install gtkpod then press Enter. When prompted, type the administrator (root) password to install gtkpod.
- When prompted by the terminal, press y to proceed with the installation.
- Once the application is installed, select Applications > Sound & Video > gtkpod. gtkpod will launch.

- Once gtkpod opens, connect your iPod to the computer via the USB cable.
If Rhythmbox or any other audio player opens simply close it. Once the device is mounted (the iPod icon will appear in the upper-right corner of the desktop), return to gtkpod and click Read. If you have existing songs on the iPod they will be read into the gtkpod interface. - To add files to your iPod, select File > Add Files.
- Browse to your music directory and select the desired file(s).
- Click Sync to write the file(s) to your iPod. If you receive an error indicating: "Failed to save /media/ipod/iPod_Control/Artwork/ArtworkDB" simply click OK to proceed.
- Once you have written your songs to the iPod, select File > Quit to close gtkpod. Return to your desktop and right-click the iPod icon then select Eject. This unmounts the device and makes it safe for removal.

- Disconnect the USB cable and enjoy.
If gtkpod fails to detect your device, unmount the iPod (see above) and close gtkpod. Follow the sequence: gtkpod first then iPod (as outlined above).
