Ubuntu is a complete Linux-based operating system and is freely available from http://www.ubuntu.com/.
This article will walk you through erasing your entire hard drive and installing Ubuntu Linux as the only Operating System. Please ensure that you have taken proper precaution to back-up your data.- Ensure that your computer is set to boot from the CD-ROM drive then insert the Ubuntu Live CD and restart. Press Enter at the prompt.
Your machine should be configured to boot from the CD-ROM. Please refer to your computer's user guide for assistance configuring the boot order.
- Once the Ubuntu Live CD is fully started, locate and double-click Install.

- Select English then click Forward.

- Select a city in your time zone (e.g. Los Angeles) then click Forward.

- Select your keyboard layout (e.g. American English) then click Forward.

- Enter your name, your desired log in name then enter your password. Confirm your password then enter the name (hostname) for your computer. Click Forward when done.

- Ensure that Erase entire disk option is selected then click Forward.

- Confirm your set settings then click Install.

- Ubuntu Linux is now being installed. Depending on the speed of your computer, the installation may take up to 45 minutes.

- Installation is complete, click Restart now.
Ensure that you remove the Ubuntu Live CD before the computer starts the boot process, otherwise your system will boot into the Ubuntu Live CD.
- Congratulations! You have successfully installed Ubuntu 6.06.
