How do I configure the Creative SB X-Fi sound card to support my 5.1 surround speakers after upgrading to Windows Vista?

Problem description

When upgrading your Dell XPS-410 to Microsoft Windows Vista, your Creative SB X-Fi sound card will default to 2.1 speaker configuration.
  1. Click Start > Control Panel.

  2. From the Control Panel Home, locate and click Hardware and Sound.

  3. From Hardware and Sound, locate and click Sound.
  4. From the Playback tab, select the speakers that are attached to the Creative SB X-Fi sound card then click Configure.
  5. From the Audio channels list, select 5.1 Surround then click Next.
     You may test the speakers by clicking Test.
  6. From the Optional speakers list, check the boxes to indicate which speakers are present in your surround configuration then click Next.
  7. From the Full-range speakers list, check the boxes to indicate which speakers are full-range speakers then click Next.
  8. Configuration is complete. Click Finish.
  9. Click OK to close the Sound configuration window.
